To play in the rain…
You have to get your feet wet!
As I decide to focus in on street photography, I started studying the works of great photographers from the 40’s and 50’s as well as some up and comers today. There’s so much we can learn from those we admire. One technique I decided to tackle this year is shooting in the rain. Living in Southern California, that’s tough to practice since we don’t get a lot of it. although these last two years we’ve had our fair share. we’ve had a few rainy days recently so I set out with umbrella in one hand and my Fujifilm X-T5 in the other and hit the streets.
The advice I hear a lot is just shoot whatever catches your eye. There are fundamental rules of style and composition but people have stretched those boundaries for generations. shoot toward and through windows, water reflections, using the umbrella or car windshield as a frame. Try it all. I got a few good images from my first time out so not bad. definitely got my feet wet.
